All In for Him: Why Do You Play Volleyball?

What really matters in sport goes far beyond our actual performance on the court. Why do we play volleyball? For whom do we play? Are we pleasing God with our efforts and attitudes as we play our sport. Are we “ALL IN, FOR HIM”?

As Christians, we should affirm that our athletic ability is a gift from God, and we should use those talents to please Him. To present our talents and abilities in this manner is an act of worship. Christians should never be ashamed of being competitive and wanting to do their best provided that their motivation is to please and honor God rather than for their own glory and praise. Romans 11:38 states that “from Him, through Him, and to Him are all things, to Him be glory forever, Amen. God has given us sport, He enables us to play our sport, and to Him all the glory is due.

In Romans 12:1, we are command us to present our body a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God. Christian players need to understand that involves being the best and most committed player that they can be. God demands our best and He deserves our best, always. This is our true act of worship. We worship our God by being the most committed person on the team and using our gifts and abilities all for His glory, not our glory.

As Christian volleyball players and coaches, we must be people who give of our absolute best in all circumstances, win or lose. That means not being a quitter and always striving for excellence. Our focus should be on Him who has given us the opportunity to play, the ability to play, and motivation to play. All in for Him should be the theme of every Chrisitan player and coach.
